Senior IC DFT Engineer for SynSense Zürich

Synsense uses advanced integrated circuit technology to develop the leading edge neuromorphic architectures that comprise its core technology for various applications. The company is currently looking for a DFT-design Engineer in our Zürich office to define and integrate DFT architectures to new semiconductor devices to ensure optimal chip testability.

This role involves architecture definition, logic design, verification, test patterns generation, chip bring-up and more. As a DFT Engineer, you will impact and see the device through its entire lifecycle, from definition to mass production. You will be working with various engineering groups including design, verification, manufacturing teams, quality as well as external partners. In this position you will be responsible for

  • IC Test development
  • Implementation of DFT solutions, including Scan, MBIST, TAP, LBIST, IO, and other I/P DFT integration
  • Creating functional test patterns with built-in diagnosis capability to be executed in the ATE environment
  • Verifying test pattern functionality and fault coverage
  • Debugging test pattern issues on bench/ATE to understand failure mechanism and improve yield
  • Working closely with IC Design, Product and Test Teams to ensure timely delivery of robust test patterns
  • Silicon bring-up, diagnosis and support for physical failure analysis
  • Balancing Test Time with quality to meet product requirements

Our requirements

  • B.Sc/M.Sc in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience in electrical engineering with both hardware and software
  • Experience of IC design flow
  • Experience with RTL environments such as Verilog/VHDL
  • Expertise in industry standards and practices in DFT, including JTAG/BSCAN, at-speed Scan-ATPG, MBIST and trade-offs between test quality and test time
  • Expertise in generating and debugging ATPG patterns, MBIST setup/patterns, and JTAG/ IEEE1500
  • Proficiency with programming and scripting languages such Perl/TCL/Python
  • Experience in working with FPGA is a plus
  • Good communication skills
  • Fluent English (English is the only common language in our international team)
  • Proven ability to work within an international team

In this position you will

  • Design of analog and mixed signal blocks for data conversion circuits such as low-noise amplifiers, power amplifiers, mixers, analog filters, data converters to be used in ultra-low power and ultra-high large scale asynchronous digital neuromorphic(/AI) processors
  • Oversee the definition, design, verification, and documentation for SoC development
  • Review bench and production test results
  • Communicate effectively to interface at all levels within the company
  • Work with our system engineers to define and guide PCB design

  • MS in Electrical Engineering or related field of study is required, PhD preferred
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in analog/mixed signal design
  • Hands on design experience in mixed signal ICs in sub-65 nanometer CMOS technologies
  • Eligible to build the new designs and implement them from scratch using the advanced CMOS technologies.
  • Very good knowledge of behavioral modeling in VerilogA/AMS or equivalent
  • Familiarity with all aspects of analog / mixed signal design flow including the back-end-tools for layout editing, drc, lvs, extraction and post-layout simulations
  • Strong analytical and debugging skills
  • Experience in Cadence design suites
  • Basic knowledge of programming languages and familiar with the tools in Linux environment
  • Understanding asynchronous digital logic design and their interfaces is a plus
  • Fluency in English and Chinese is a must

Software Engineer for SynSense Zürich Developer-tooling and libraries

At SynSense we design the next generation of AI processors — ultra-low-power (µW to mW) for IoT, embedded and mobile devices. We are also designing smart sensor modules, combining sensing and computation in tiny low-power packages.

Required qualifications

  • You have a university degree in computer science, software/electrical engineering or equivalent
  • You have 5+ years of experience writing modern C++ applications
  • You have experience with git
  • You are comfortable working on Linux systems
  • You are comfortable working in an agile team
  • You have good spoken and written English ability
  • You have a Swiss or EU passport, or Swiss residence with existing right to work (B/C permit)

Our system integration team at SynSense Zürich is responsible for developing low level firmware, drivers, and higher level developer libraries and tooling for our low-power ML inference hardware. 
We develop the tools that are used by our customers and in-house ML engineers to develop applications that utilize our hardware. This includes embedded software and drivers for communicating directly with our devices and higher-level libraries for working with event based data. Our task is to make developing applications for our novel computing hardware easy and familiar to ML engineers and data scientists who are used to working with libraries such as PyTorch and Tensorflow.
We are looking for candidates who are motivated to develop libraries and applications that primarily work with event-based data. You will be part of the team that develops our higher-level software utilities for working with event streams, filtering, visualization and interfacing with PyTorch based Python libraries. You will work with other members of the team to design event-based APIs, implement them, test them, and refactor them as necessary. You will also review other team-member’s code and contribute to our development processes and documentation as well as our CI/CD.

We are looking for candidates with experience in managing cloud infrastructure at a smaller scale as well as having experience with build systems. We build software for Linux/MacOS/Windows as well as for embedded systems. Your tasks will include managing the build infrastructure, mainly consisting of docker containers spun up by Gitlab containers, as well as any cloud services needed by the team, such as our documentation hosting and conan package repository.
